A Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) system is required to connect each house to the NBN.

How Does The FTTP System Work?

NBN contractors will install an Optical Network Terminal (ONT) on the external wall of your house, which looks like a simple, plain grey box. Optical fibre cables will run down your street and into the ONT – inside the ONT, a Media Converter will split the optical signal into telephone lines, TV signals and internet.
The ONT contains up to four data ports, and these connect to a Network Switch.
